On the international cashew market, the trend remains downward, even though consumption remains excellent in the West. Most Indian and Vietnamese factories have closed or are preparing to do so, N'kalô points out in his weekly newsletter on the cashew market. "The kernel stocks available at their level are being sold off to generate cash, but very few of them agree to sign forward contracts for export beyond May," N'kalô explains.
Raw cashew contracts have either been canceled or postponed, the report states, bringing exports to a virtual standstill. Some exporters with inventories are offering their goods at between $800 and $1,000 per ton for shipments in May. "The majority of exporters and importers prefer not to commit to this uncertain period, so these values are of little significance," the specialist explains.
